Overcoming your limiting beliefs

What would you do if you knew you would succeed? The truth is you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, but limiting beliefs are probably holding you back. Fortunately, we can eliminate them!

A limiting belief is something you believe to be true about yourself, about others, or about the world that limits you in some way. These beliefs are our biggest hinder in achieving, growing, and reaching our goals. They can be about living healthier, earning more money, progressing in our careers, finding a partner, running a marathon - anything!

We tend to use limiting beliefs as excuses not to take chances, invest in ourselves, or try something new.

When we overcome them, magic happens

The first step to overcome your limiting beliefs is to recognise them. They often start with "I don't have time to...", "I can't afford to...", "I don't have the competency required to...", "It probably won't work for me...", or "Maybe later when the timing is right I will..."

Once you're able to recognise them, repeat with me: It's not true. It just isn't true.

Step three: Change the narrative. "I will find time to...", "If I start a side hustle or cut restaurants for a few months, I will be able to afford to...", "I don't know how to do it yet, but I will figure out how to...", "It will probably work for me if I keep trying...", or "No time like the present, I will start now!"

You can also use affirmations to reroute the negative thought pattern that takes place in your head. Write a list of affirmations that counteract your most common limiting beliefs and repeat them three times a day.

Affirmations can include

  • I am safe and protected in the world.

  • The abundant resources of the universe are available to me.

  • Thank you, universe, for supporting me and guiding me to fulfil my purpose.

  • Everything that happens to me is an opportunity to learn.

  • I attract money from expected and unexpected sources.

Practice this, every day. Every time you say or think a limited belief. With time and consistency, your mindset will change and you will realise that these blockages dissolve when you stop believing in them.
